Softball Splits With No. 13 Whitewater and Southern Maine; Ball Walks Off With Game Two

Clermont, Fla. - March 15, 2026 - The Springfield College softball team opened up its trip to Florida with a split against No. 13 Whitewater and Southern Maine on Sunday afternoon at Hancock Park.

Springfield moved its record to 2-2 on the season and will face William Paterson and Wisconsin-Stevens Point tomorrow at 10:00 am and 2:30 pm.

Game One: No. 13 Wisconsin Whitewater 13, Springfield 0 (5 Innings)

Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Reilly Hunter (Wallingford, Conn.) each hit a double as Emilia Santiago (West Hartford, Conn.) added another hit for the Pride.

Josie Hammen got the win in the circle after letting up one hit and striking out three in 3.0 innings pitched as DeRosa took the loss.

It was a dominant showing for Whitewater as the Warhawks exploded for seven runs in the bottom of the first and added another in the bottom of the second to lead 8-0.

A triple from Maggie Ward sparked a five-run inning as the Warhawks went up 13-0 in the bottom of the third. The Pride threatened with runners in scoring position in the top of the fourth and fifth, but Whitewater was able to retire the side in both innings and took the win, 13-0.

Game Two: Springfield 3, Southern Maine 2

Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) and Haley Ball (Westbrook, Maine) would be the difference makers as Pecchia hit a solo home run and Ball walked off to lift the Pride over Southern Maine. Ball was 2-for-3 as Pecchia and Madison King (Burlington, Mass.) each recorded a hit in one plate appearance.

In the circle, DeRosa threw a complete game for the win with allowing two runs and striking out three.

Southern Maine went up 2-0 in the top of the second before the Pride cut the lead in half in the bottom of the inning. Kate Katsetos (Brewster, N.Y.) reached on an error before Aurora Levesque (Weston, Conn.) and Brynlee Eckles (Ellington, Conn.) moved her over and was able to score on a passed ball.

With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Pecchia went in for a pinch-hit and blasted a homerun over the centerfield fence to tie it at two.

King went in for a pinch-hit and notched a double to centerfield in the bottom of the seventh which allowed Ball to hit a single to right field and knock in King for the win, 3-2.
