Orlando, Fla. - March 16, 2026 - The Springfield College men's tennis team opened up its trip to Florida with a 4-3 setback against Bethel College (Minn.) on Monday morning at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
Bethel improves to 9-1 on the year as Springfield moves to 3-3 overall.
Marc Villanueva Abad (Barcelona, Mexico) and
Austin Prendiville (City Beach, Australia) took home wins at No. 2 doubles, beating Zack Chaffey and Watson Sheard of Bethel 6-3. Bethel, however, won at No. 1 and No. 3 to claim the doubles point.
Prendville continued his success in singles play earning a 6-4, 7-6 victory over Dylan Magistad at No. 2.
Akito Shimamura (Hirono, Japan) also won at No. 3 singles by scores of 6-2, 6-3, while Villanueva Abad fought back from a set down to win 5-7, 7-5, 12-10 at No. 4. Bethel, won at No. 1, No. 5 and No. 6 to claim the match by a 4-3 final on Monday morning.
The Pride will face St. Norbert tomorrow at 6:00 pm at the UTSA National Campus.
