Orlando, Fla. – March 17, 2026 – The Springfield College men's tennis team defeated St. Norbert, 6-1, at the USTA National Campus in Orlando on Tuesday night under the lights.
Springfield improved its record to 4-3 on the season after tonight.
Springfield took the lead out of doubles play as
Marc Villanueva Abad (Barcelona, Mexico) and
Ricardo Rodriguez Battaglia (Leon, Mexico) earned a 6-4 win at No. 2, while
Emiliano Montenegro Galarza (Huixquilucan, Mexico) and
Liam Huppke (Markham, Canada) posted a 6-3 win at No. 3.
Springfield then went on to win five of the six singles matches.
Angelo Guzman (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) came away with a three set thriller at No. 1 winning 6-3, 5-7, 10-5 before
Austin Prendiville (City Beach, Australia) earned a 7-6, 7-5 win at No. 2.
Akito Shimamura (Hirono, Japan) followed Guzman with a three set win of his own at No. 3 by scores of 6-2, 4-6, 10-5 before
Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) and Galarza capped the 6-1 win with a pair of victories in straight sets at the bottom of the lineup.
Springfield will take on Hobart at 11:30 am tomorrow at Sanlando Tennis Center.
