No. 1 Men's Volleyball Sweeps Elms & Hunter in Saturday Tri in Blake

Springfield, Mass. – March 7, 2026 – The No. 1 ranked Springfield College men's volleyball team returned to Blake Arena and defeated both Hunter College and Elms College in a Saturday afternoon tri-match.

Springfield improved to 13-3 on the season and will host Sage on Tuesday night. Springfield swept Hunter by scores of 25-13, 25-17, 25-20 and Elms by scores of 25-18, 25-17, 25-15.

Springfield 3, Hunter 0

In his return to the lineup, Jake DesLauriers (Eastport, N.Y.) hit .474 with nine kills on 19 errorless swings and also added five digs, two aces and two blocks. Caleb Alexis (New Orleans, La.) hit .636 with eight kills, while Brennan Cutter (Trumbull, Conn.) hit .667 with five kills. In total, 12 student-athletes for the Pride notched at least one kill today. Dylan Mulvaney (Reston, Va.) and Dyllan Nguyen (Fountain Valley, Calif.) combined for 35 assists, while Richard Eber Jr. (Hummelstown, Pa.) posted a team-best four aces.

Springfield raced out to a 9-3 lead after back-to-back kills from DesLauriers and AJ Seveland (Jenkintown, Pa.). Then up 10-5, Cutter ignited an 8-1 run for the Pride extending the lead to 12 at 18-6. Over the stretch, Cutter led Springfield with a pair of kills. Hunter was able to climb back within ten at 21-11, but an ace and kill from Eber Jr. paired with a swing through the middle by Billy Cavanagh (Yardley, Pa.) and one final error by the Hawks gave Springfield the first 25-13.

Springfield hit .765 in the middle set with 14 kills on 17 swings. Tied at nine, Will Kirchhoff (Macedon, N.Y.) sparked an 8-3 run for the Pride that pushed the hosts in front 18-12. Alexis made it 19-13 before a block by Cavanagh and DesLauriers set up set point. A swing by Alexis secured the second for Springfield, 25-17.

Springfield tallied six of the first seven points of the third and went on to produce 17 kills on 32 swings hitting .469 en route to the sweep. The teams traded points before a setter dump by Nguyen paired with a swing by DesLauriers made it 18-13. Alexis notched three of the next four points for the Pride before a swing by DesLauriers put Springfield within two points of the sweep. Alexis swung from the left side and Roy Rodriguez Mendez (Avalon Park, Fla.) produced the final point of the afternoon to win the third 25-20 and defeat Hunter in straight sets.

Springfield 3, Elms 0

Springfield hit .541 with 44 kills against Elms including at a .688 clip in the first set. Carter Durivage (East Greenbush, N.Y.) hit .625 with a team-high 12 kills. Joey Preische (Penfield, N.Y.), Eber Jr. and Sam Levinson (LaGrange, Ill.) combined for 16 kills on 27 errorless swings and in total 11 different student-athletes notched at least one kill. Nguyen dished out 34 assists.

After trading points to start the first, a kill from Cutter ignited an 8-1 run for the Pride pushing them ahead 17-9. Elms climbed back to within four at 21-17, but three errors from the Blazers and an ace from Levinson gave Springfield set point. Durivage terminated the first with a swing off the hands of Nguyen as the Pride won the first, 25-18.

Springfield produced a match-high 18 kills in the middle set. Tied at 10, Springfield ripped off nine straight points with Levinson serving the ball. Levinson kicked off the run with a kill before a pair of setter dumps by Nguyen made it 19-10. An ace by Presiche before a kill from Durivage ended the second, 25-17, in favor of the homestanding Pride.

Springfield was in complete control of the third jumping out to a 10-2 lead. Later in the set a swing by Rodriguez Mendez and an ace by Alexis made it 19-10. Javi Sepulveda (Bayamon, Puerto Rico) swing for a kill before two errors at the service line by Elms gave Springfield match point. Alexis finished off the Blazers with one final swing to complete the sweep.
