Softball Opens the 2026 Season With a Split Against No. 22 Williams

Springfield, Mass. - March 7, 2026 - The Springfield College softball team opened up the 2026 season with a split against No. 22 Williams on Potter Field. Williams took the first game 2-1 and Springfield won the second game 7-3.

Both the Pride and the Ephs open up their seasons at 1-1 as Springfield's win marks its first over Williams since 2011.

Reilly Hunter (Wallingford, Conn.) would have the only two hits for the Pride in game one, going 2-for-3 with a run scored. Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) was 4-for-4 in game two with two RBIs, a double and a run scored as Kate Katsetos (Brewster, N.Y.) and Taylor Falotico (Windsor, Conn.) each had two hits and Falotico had three runs scored.

In the circle, DeRosa took the loss in game one with six strikeouts as Julia Rimshnick (Staten Island, N.Y.) got the win in game two.

Game One: No. 22 Williams 2, Springfield 1

It was a pitchers duel in game one, as the first hit of the game came as a triple in the top of the third from Haley Barrett, but DeRosa was able to retire the next two batters, stranding Barrett on third.

Williams scored the first run of the game in the fourth, capitalizing on an error from Springfield but the Pride had an answer right away as Hunter led off with a single through the right side and scored when Emilia Santiago (West Hartford, Conn.) reached on an error to tie it at one.

In the top of the sixth, Alysa DeQuiroz hit a double and then advanced to third before Katie Blanch hit a single that would end up being the winning run for the Ephs, 2-1.

Game Two: Springfield 7, No. 22 Williams 3

The Pride put up three in the bottom of the second, putting together an inning for themselves as they strung together three hits and two walks. DeRosa brought in Katsetos and Rachel Powers (Tigard, Ore.) with a double before Falotico scored on a wild pitch.

Falotico led off with a single in the bottom of the fourth and would eventually be brought in by a ground out from Hunter to give the Pride a 4-0 lead.

The Ephs scored two in the top of the sixth to make it 4-1, but another ground out from Hunter brought in Falotico before Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) notched a double to bring in Haley Ball (Westbrook, Maine) and DeRosa. Williams scored again in the top of the seventh, but Springfield held a big enough lead and took the win, 7-3.

The Pride will head to Clermont, Fla. for an eight-game stint beginning on Sunday, March 15.
