Amherst, Mass. - April 1, 2026 - In their second matchup of the season, the Springfield College baseball team was defeated Amherst in its first away game of the season on Wednesday afternoon, 10-2.
The Mammoths improve to 12-4 over while the Pride drop to 13-6.
Six different student-athletes had hits for Springfield as Ryan Duffy (Stafford Springs, Conn.) and Tyler Casey (Wallinford, Conn.) led the Pride going 2-for-4 with a run scored while Casey also drove in a run.
Kai MacQuiddy got the win on the mound as he did not let up a hit or a run over two innings pitched. Ryan Baker (North Reading, Mass.) started the game for the Pride, pitching 3.0 innings while only letting up four hits and one run scored without walking a batter.
After Casey led off with a walk and then stole second, Michael Lepere (Beacon, N.Y.) drove him in with a single to give Springfield the lead in the top of the first before the Mammoths equalized in the bottom of the inning.
In the top of the second, Casey hit a single out to left field to bring in Duffy as the Pride took a 2-1 lead.
Amherst then went on to hold Springfield scoreless the rest of the game while tacking on nine more runs. The Mammoths took the lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring three runs to make it 4-2 and never looked back. They proceeded to add one run in the fifth, two in the seventh and three in the eighth for the 10-2 win.
The Pride will head to Wheaton (Mass.) on Saturday for a conference doubleheader beginning at 12:00 pm.
