Norton, Mass. – April 11, 2026 – The Springfield College softball team split its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader with Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon on the road.
Springfield, which saw its record move to 15-8 overall and to 6-4 in league play, won the opener 3-1 before the Lyons took the nightcap, 4-3.
In the opener,
Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) became just the 14th student-athlete in program history to record 100 career RBI as her game-tying single in the fifth eventually led to a 3-1 victory for Springfield.
Game One: Springfield 3, Wheaton 1
At the top of the lineup, DeRosa and
Madi Testo (Keene, N.H.) combined for four hits and three RBI, while in the seven slot
Haley Ball (Westbrook, Maine) went 3-for-3.
Wheaton scored the game's first run in the bottom of the opening frame as Peyton Blankenheim-Brown doubled in Ella Molinari, who reached with a two out single to left. The score remained the same until the top of the fifth when Springfield recorded all three of its runs.
Ball and
Taylor Falotico (Windsor, Conn.) led off the fifth with infield singles before Ball came across with Springfield's first run of the game on a single to left by DeRosa. Testo then drilled a single driving in Falotico before
Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) plated DeRosa making it 3-1.
Wheaton was able to put the tying runs on base in the sixth and had the tying run at the plate in the seventh, but DeRosa got out of both jams to complete the game one win. DeRosa (10-4) also picked up the win in the circle pitching a complete game, scattering eight hits and striking out nine.
Game Two: Wheaton 4, Springfield 3
Five different hitters for Springfield registered two hits apiece and
Kate Katsetos (Brewster, N.Y.) drove in all three runs for the Pride, but Wheaton was able to hold the Pride off in the 4-3 final. DeRosa, Testo,
Reilly Hunter (Wallingford, Conn.), Katsetos and Falotico all notched a pair of hits for the visitors.
Springfield took an early 1-0 lead when Katsetos drove in Hunter in the top of the first on a single to center. Wheaton quickly responded and posted three runs of its own in the bottom of the first highlighted by a pair of RBI singles.
The Lyons added a fourth run on another RBI double from Molinari in the second and that was all the offense Wheaton would need behind the pitching performance from Blankenheim-Brown.
Springfield rallied for a pair of runs in the fifth on a two-run single by Katsetos, but unfortunately stranded the bases loaded. The Pride advanced a runner to second in the sixth and went down 1-2-3 in the seventh to complete the contest with the score at 4-3 in favor of Wheaton.
