Springfield, Mass. - April 15, 2026 - The Springfield College softball team split a nonconference doubleheader with Amherst on Wednesday afternoon on Potter Field.
The Pride move to 16-9 overall while Amherst goes to 8-16 on the season.
Kate Katsetos (Brewster, N.Y.) and Reilly Hunter (Wallingford, Conn.) went 3-for-6 with one run scored and one RBI each as Hunter also notched two doubles. Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) was 4-for-9 with three RBI and got the win in the circle in game one as she struck out six.
Game 1: Springfield 8, Amherst 5
The Pride put up one run in the top of the first as Katsetos brought in Hunter who walked to start the inning.
Springfield went on to explode for seven more runs through the fourth inning. Emilia Santiago (West Hartford, Conn.) led off the second with a walk before a double from Haley Ball (Westbrook, Maine) brought her home. The Pride tacked on another run when DeRosa singled through the right side to bring in Ball and take a 3-0 lead.
The Mammoths strung a couple of hits to bring in a run in the top of the third before the Pride scored four more. Brynlee Eckles (Ellington, Conn.) hit a single to right center to score Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) and Katsetos before she was brought in by DeRosa. Later that inning, Madi Testo (Keene, N.H.) hit a single down the line that brought in Taylor Falotico (Windsor, Conn.). In the bottom of the fourth, Santiago scored on a wild pitch as Springfield led 8-1.
Amherst looked to chip away, scoring four runs in the fifth and sixth innings, but could not come back from the Pride's strong start as Springfield won it, 8-5.
Game 2: Amherst 6, Springfield 2
In the top of the second, Amherst scored two runs before dominating the third inning, scoring four more runs to take a 6-0 lead.
The Pride put a couple on the board as Aurora Levesque (Weston, Conn.) led off the top of the fourth with a single before DeRosa brought her in to score. Hunter then doubled in the sixth to bring in Falotico, but it was not enough as the Mammoths won it 6-2.
Springfield will host Smith for a NEWMAC doubleheader on Friday at 2:30 pm on Potter Field.
