Softball Sweeps Smith in NEWMAC Doubleheader

Springfield, Mass. - April 17, 2026 - The Springfield College softball team swept Smith in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) doubleheader on Potter Field on Friday afternoon.

The Pride improve to 18-9 overall and 8-4 in conference play while Smith drops to 13-13, 5-5.

Taylor Falotico (Windsor, Conn.), Brynlee Eckles (Ellington, Conn.), Reilly Hunter (Wallingford, Conn.), Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Kate Katsetos (Brewster, N.Y.) all notched two hits apiece while combining for four runs scored and four RBI.

Both pitchers went the distance in their respective games as DeRosa got the shutout win in game one scattering four hits and did not walk a single batter while striking out six as Julia Rimshnick (Staten Island, N.Y.) also struck out six and let up one run.

Game 1: Springfield 3, Smith 0

The Pride scored all of their runs in the bottom of the third as Springfield strung together four hits to bring in three runs. Madi Testo (Keene, N.H.) hit a one-out double to get it going before scoring on a double from Kasetos. Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) then hit the third consecutive double for Springfield to drive in Katsetos before Pecchia scored on a single from Haley Ball (Westbrook, Maine)

Smith only had runners in scoring position twice with no runners making it past second base as the Pride earned the 3-0 win.

Game 2: Springfield 4, Smith 1

After Smith took a 1-0 lead in the top of the fourth, Springfield had an answer for the Bears in the bottom of the inning. With two outs, Sammy Swords (Plano, Texas) hit a double to right center to score Eckles. Hunter then hit a single to right field to score Swords before DeRosa doubled to bring in Falotico and Hunter for the eventual 4-1 win.

Springfield will head to Emerson tomorrow for a conference doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
