Newport, R.I. - April 11, 2026 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse team defeated Salve Regina, 18-7, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) matchup on Saturday afternoon.
The Pride improve to 7-6 overall and 5-2 in the conference while Salve Regina drops to 7-6, 3-4.Â
Kristyn Vasselin (Hudson, Mass.), Liz Neri (Farmington, Conn.) and Payton Imhof (Bay Shore, N.Y.) led the Pride with three goals and an assist apiece. Lily Johnson (Oceanside, N.Y.) and Claire Ognibene (New Canaan, Conn.) scored two goals while five other student-athletes tallied one. Ognibene also tallied two assists and three caused turnovers as Sarah Newton (Colchester, Conn.)Â had five draw controls and three assists. Izzy Lalancette (Feeding Hills, Mass.) and Eniola Elefontuyi (Niskayuna, N.Y.) picked up three ground balls each and Elefontuyi also caused three turnovers. Cedar Conrad (Amherst, Mass.) and Lindsay Hillemeir (Unionville, Conn.) combined for six saves between the pipes.Â
The first quarter saw an even matchup between the teams. The Seahawks took an early 2-1 lead five minutes into the quarter before Hailey Gaydos (Newington, Conn.) scored a man-down goal off of a pass from Neri to even the score at two. Salve Regina added another goal before Ognibene and Neri added two more, to give Springfield a 4-3 lead going into the next quarter.Â
Springfield dominated the second quarter, exploding for nine unanswered goals to take a 13-3 lead going into the halftime break. A goal from Imhof sparked the run at 14:13 and Vasselin led the Pride with three goals in the quarter as four other student-athletes contributed to the impressive showing.Â
The Pride continued to control the game in the third quarter, outscoring Salve Regina 4-2Â to lead 17-5 which included goals from Sarah Goldstein (Cheshire, Conn.) and Molly Moore (Attleboro, Mass.) - their first goals of the season and first in Goldstein's career. The Seahawks added two more in the fourth along with one from Neri as Springfield took the win, 18-7.Â
Springfield held in edge in shots (35-14), draw controls (14-12) and ground balls (15-14) while going a perfect 16-for-16 on the clear.Â
The Pride head to Emerson for a 6:00 pm matchup on Wednesday night.
