Men's Tennis Picks Up 7-0 NEWMAC Win Over Salve Regina on Senior Day

Springfield, Mass. – April 12, 2026 – The Springfield College men's tennis team wrapped up the second of two conference matches this weekend as the Pride blanked Salve Regina University, 7-0, on Sunday afternoon in NEWMAC play.

With the win, Springfield improved to 10-5 overall and to 5-0 in conference play and have secured a first round bye in the 2026 NEWMAC Championship Tournament. Springfield still has Babson and MIT to play in the regular season, but the Pride cannot finish any lower than third in the conference standings.

The Pride eased by the Seahawks in doubles play as Tim Norin (Stockholm, Sweden) and Marc Villanueva Abad (Barcelona, Mexico) earned a 6-3 win at No. 1, Liam Huppke (Markham, Canada) and Angelo Guzman (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) earned a 6-1 win at No. 2 and Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) and Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) earned a 6-0 win at No. 3.

All six singles matches were decided in straight sets with Gomulka at No. 4 and Thongbooncharoen at No. 5 earning 6-0, 6-0 shutout victories. Norin eased by his opponent at No. 6, 6-1, 6-0, while Guzman and Villanueva Abad earned duplicate 6-2, 6-0 wins at No. 1 and No. 3, respectively. Austin Prendiville (City Beach, Australia) rounded out the winners today with a 6-1, 6-1 victory at No. 2.

Springfield will host nationally-ranked MIT on Wednesday at 3:30pm.
