Poughkeepsie, N.Y. – April 15, 2026 – The Springfield College men's lacrosse team came up short in a 13-7 non-conference decision at Vassar College on Wednesday afternoon.
Vassar improved to 6-7, while Springfield fell to 8-5.
Bryan Stensrud (LaGrangeville, N.Y.) and
Charlie Vath (Southington, Conn.) led the Pride with three points apiece as Stensrud recorded a hat trick with three goals, while Vath notched two goals and an assist.
Reece Whitney (Chester, Conn.) registered a team-best five ground balls, while
Angus Oliveira (Little Compton, R.I.) notched a trio of caused turnovers.
As a team, Vassar held the edge in shots (37-34), ground balls (45-30), won 18-of-24 face offs and scored twice on the man-advantage.
Stensrud scored the first goal and the last goal of the first quarter, but sandwiched between Vassar found the back of the net four times including once a man-up for a 4-1 lead through 15 minutes of play. Vath connected with
Brady Soldo (Shrewsbury, Mass.) cutting the Pride's deficit to just one at 4-3 early in the second, but Vassar outscored Springfield 7-4 in the middle quarters and ultimately held an 11-6 lead after three.
Ryan Berkel (Sudbury, Mass.) and
Patrick McGowan (Haverhill, Mass.) found the back of the net late for Springfield – once in each of the third and fourth quarters, but Vassar went on to win by the 13-7 final tonight.
In net,
Joseph Grenier (Cheshire, Conn.) made 11 saves on 24 shots for Springfield.
Springfield will travel to Coast Guard on Saturday at 3:00 pm for a NEWMAC contest.
