Springfield, Mass. - April 18, 2026 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse defeated Wellesley in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game on Stagg Field, 21-6.
With the win, the Pride improve to 9-6 overall and 7-2 in the conference while the Blue drop to 4-11, 2-8.Â
Ten different student-athletes scored for the Pride as Sarah Newton (Colchester, Conn.) led all scorers with four goals and filled the box score with ten draw controls, three ground balls, two assists and two caused turnovers. Liz Neri (Farmington, Conn.) and Payton Imhof (Bay Shore, N.Y.) scored three goals for the Pride as Hailey Gaydos (Newington, Conn.), Kristyn Vasselin (Hudson, Mass.) and Elyse Altland (North Bennington, Vt.) all picked up three ground balls apiece and Altland and Lily Johnson (Oceanside, N.Y.) each caused two turnovers. Cedar Conrad (Amherst, Mass.) and Lindsay Hillemeir (Unionville, Conn.) combined for nine saves in net.Â
The Pride held an edge in shots (38-22), ground balls (22-12), draw controls (18-12) and Springfield went a perfect 14-for-14 in transition.Â
Springfield started the scoring early, scoring three goals within the first four minutes of the game. Johnson sparked the offense as she scored on a free-position shot at 14:19 as Imhof followed that up less than a minute later and was assisted by Claire Ognibene (New Canaan, Conn.). Neri then scored on a free-position shot at 12:49 to go up 3-0 before Wellesley tacked on one of their own. Springfield went on to outscore the Blue 5-2 in the first quarter as two more goals from Imhof highlighted the Pride's run taking an 8-3 lead.Â
In the second quarter, each team tallied two goals with Newton scoring both goals for the Pride as Springfield entered the halftime break leading 10-5.Â
The Pride proceeded to dominate the rest of the game out of the break. Springfield went on to score eleven goals in the third and fourth quarters as eight different student-athletes scored for the Pride and were led by Newton, Ognibene and Molly Moore (Attleboro, Mass.) who each scored two goals. Wellesley only notched one more goal and the Pride took the 21-6 win.Â
Springfield will close out the regular season with a game against Clark on Stagg Field on Wednesday at 3:00 pm.Â
