Softball Sweeps Coast Guard in NEWMAC Twinbill

Springfield, Mass. – April 24, 2026 – The Springfield College softball team used strong pitching performances from both Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Julia Rimshnick (Staten Island, N.Y.) to sweep Coast Guard in a NEWMAC doubleheader on Friday afternoon on Potter Field.

Springfield improved to 22-9 overall and to 12-4 in NEWMAC play, while Coast Guard dropped to 14-12, 8-6.

In the twinbill, Reilly Hunter (Wallingford, Conn.)Kate Katsetos (Brewster, N.Y.) and DeRosa all produced three hits, while Brynlee Eckles (Ellington, Conn.), Hunter and DeRosa all drove in two runners. Over the course of 14 innings, Springfield registered 18 hits as a team and combined for 11 runs in the sweep. The pitching duo of DeRosa and Rimshnick combined to strike out 13 batters and allow just two runs on the afternoon.

Game One: Springfield 5, Coast Guard 0

Springfield struck for two runs in the bottom of the first as Hunter led off the frame with a single to left before scoring on a single to center by Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.). Pecchia then scored two batters later on a sacrifice fly by Emilia Santiago (West Hartford, Conn.).

Neither side had much to show in the middle frames, but Springfield got some insurance in the bottom of the sixth with three additional runs. Santiago and Haley Ball (Westbrook, Maine) both drilled singles with one out before Eckles cleared the bases with a two-run triple to right. Hunter then plated Eckles with another base knock.

DeRosa faced five batters in the top of the seventh and despite allowing a pair of singles, struck out three to secure the 5-0 victory. DeRosa faced 25 batters over the course of the game, scattered four hits and struck out ten, the second time this season she has punched out ten or more.

Game Two: Springfield 6, Coast Guard 2

The nightcap was tied at two before Springfield exploded for four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. The Pride took advantage of a Coast Guard error before Hunter drove in Sammy Swords (Plano, Texas) to take the lead, 3-2. DeRosa then plated both Hunter and Taylor Falotico (Windsor, Conn.) on a single up the middle and Madi Testo (Keene, N.H.) plated Maddie Tse (Glenville, N.Y.) making it 6-2.

Rimshnick allowed single runners in the fifth and the sixth, but returned for the seventh and set the Bears down 1-2-3 to complete the sweep. The sophomore allowed two runs and eight hits, but struck out three to improve to 8-5 this spring.

Springfield will welcome Manhattanville University to Alden Street on Tuesday for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3:00 pm.
