Dunaisky and Richburg Lead Springfield to 2-1 NEWMAC Win at Babson Completing Season Sweep For Second Straight Year

Babson Park, Mass. – April 28, 2026 – An RBI knock in the top of the ninth inning by Jack Dunaisky (Longmeadow, Mass.) and a stellar start on the bump by Jack Richburg (Hinesburg, Vt.) sent the Springfield College baseball team past Babson College, 2-1, on Tuesday afternoon.

Springfield, which completed the season sweep of the Beavers for the second consecutive season and has now won four in a row against Babson, improved to 22-13 overall and to 8-6 in NEWMAC play with just three games to go in the regular season. Babson, meanwhile, dropped to 20-15, 8-6. The Pride will hold the head-to-head tiebreaker when it comes time for postseason seeding on Saturday night.

Today was a pitcher's duel between Richburg and Graydon Vyse, who combined to throw 15 innings. Richburg went seven scoreless for the Pride and struck out eight, while Vyse went the first eight for the hosts allowing an unearned run and two hits.

It was Jake Gombotz (South Windsor, Conn.), who got the win for the Pride as he went the final two and shut Babson down in the bottom of the ninth.

In the top of the sixth, Tyler Casey (Wallingford, Conn.) was hit by a pitch, stole second and ended up scoring after a double play as the Pride took a 1-0 edge. The scored remained the same until the bottom of the eighth when two Springfield errors allowed the Beavers to plate a run.

Springfield immediately answered in the ninth and took the lead for good as Dunaisky plated Nate Garafalo (Kinderhook, N.Y.) for the Pride's second run of the game. With two outs, Garafalo roped an infield single, moved to second on a walk and scored on a line drive down the left field line by Dunaisky.

Gombotz got the first two out of the ninth in consecutive order before Zander Teator became the tying run with a single up the middle. Gombotz, however, got Ryan Liss to line out securing the 2-1 win for the Pride.

Springfield will head to Johnson & Wales tomorrow for a non-conference contest at 4:00 pm.
