Springfield, Mass. – April 7, 2026 – The Springfield College men's tennis team remained unbeaten in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play following a 5-2 win over Coast Guard on Tuesday afternoon inside the Springfield College Field House.
Springfield improved to 7-5 overall and to 3-0 in NEWMAC play, while Coast Guard fell to 1-5, 1-3.
Springfield picked up the doubles point following a trio of close matchups across the board
. Tim Norin (Stockholm, Sweden) and
Ethan Gomulka (San Bernardino, Calif.) picked up a 7-5 win at No. 1 over Brendan Love and Ben Bonetto, while
Phakin Thongbooncharoen (Bangkok, Thailand) and
Akito Shimamura (Hirono, Japan) topped Noah Reice and Konnor Eslinger, 7-6, at No. 2.
Liam Huppke (Markham, Canada) and
Angelo Guzman (Port Jefferson Station, N.Y.) had an easier time at No. 3 completing the sweep with a 6-2 victory.
The Pride went on to win five of the six singles matches to account for the 6-1 final. At the top of the lineup, Guzman topped Bonetto, 6-2, 6-2 at No.1, while
Austin Prendiville (City Beach, Australia) picked up a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 2 over Anthony Gregoire. Huppke and Gomulka also earned wins in straight sets as Huppke defeated Eslinger, 6-3, 6-2 at No. 4 before Gomulka posted a 6-2, 6-2 win over Benjamin Carlander at No. 5.
Coast Guard received a pair of three set wins for its two points this afternoon. At No. 3 singles Love came from behind to defeat Shimamura, 6-3, 0-6, 6-2, while at No. 6 Reice outlasted
Emiliano Montenegro-Galarza (Huixquilucan, Mexico), 4-6, 6-1, 10-8.
Springfield will host Farmingdale State in non-conference action on Thursday at 3:30pm.
