Springfield, Mass. - April 8, 2026 - The Springfield College women's lacrosse team earned a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) win on Wednesday night over Smith on Stagg Field, 11-9.
The Pride improve to 6-6 overall and 4-2 in the conference as the Bears move to 8-6, 4-3.
Lily Johnson (Oceanside, N.Y.) had four goals and an assist for Springfield as seven other student-athletes tallied a goal while Sarah Newton (Colchester, Conn.) filled the box score with nine draw controls, three caused turnovers, two ground balls and a goal. Elyse Altland (North Bennington, Vt.) also added three caused turnovers and three ground balls as Molly Forrest (Wakefield, Mass.) and Lindsay Vogt (Westwood, N.J.) notched four ground balls apiece. Cedar Conrad (Amherst, Mass.) had four saves between the pipes.
The Pride were down 2-0 in the first quarter before Izzy Lalancette (Feeding Hills, Mass.) found Johnson for the Pride's first goal of the game.
Jenna Paczkowski scored less than 15 seconds into the second quarter to give Smith a 3-1 lead before Springfield went on to explode for six goals. Forrest sparked the run before Newton added one at 11:02 to tie it at three. Johnson went on to score three times within three minutes as Forrest found her on two goals. The Pride left the Bears scoreless for almost 14 minutes before Layna Fitzgerald added one to make it 6-4 in favor of the Pride. Liz Neri (Farmington, Conn.) found Kaelynn Stringer (East Greenbush, N.Y.) who netted one with less than a minute left as Springfield took a 7-4 lead going into the halftime break.
Lalancette and Neri added two more goals in the third as the Bears tacked on another to make it 9-5. In the fourth quarter, Smith went on to battle back, scoring four goals in the final fifteen minutes of play, but a strong second quarter from Springfield would lead the Pride to a win, 11-9.
Springfield held the edge in shots (39-16), ground balls (25-20) and draw controls (13-9) as the Pride went 9-for-11 on the clear.
The Pride head to Salve Regina on Saturday at 11:00 am.
