DeRosa Becomes Springfield’s All-Time Hits Leader as Softball Sweeps Babson in Regular Season Finale

Springfield, Mass. - May 2, 2026 - The Springfield College softball team swept Babson in its regular season finale on Potter Field as Amelia DeRosa (Miller Place, N.Y.) became Springfield's all-time hits leader during Saturday's doubleheader, eclipsing 247 hits for the first time on Alden Street since 2003.

The Pride finish the regular season at 25-12 overall and 14-6 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) while the Beavers drop to 19-21, 11-9.

DeRosa and Kate Katsetos (Brewster, N.Y.) led the Springfield offense, going 3-for-5 as the pair combined for seven RBI and four runs scored. Carissa Pecchia (Mamaroneck, N.Y.) notched five RBI, two hits, two runs scored, two walks and a home run.

In game one, DeRosa got the shutout win in the circle after pitching five innings while only allowing two hits and striking out four. Lily McCauliffe (Greenwich, N.Y.) got the start in game two, pitching two scoreless innings and only giving up two hits as Julia Rimshnick (Staten Island, N.Y.) earned the win after pitching four innings and scattering four hits.

Game 1: Springfield 8, Babson 0 (5 Innings)

The first inning would be the difference maker in game one as the Pride exploded to put up seven runs. After Reilly Hunter (Wallingford, Conn.) and DeRosa got on base to lead off the inning, Pecchia blasted a three-run home run to give the Pride the lead. The next six batters then reached base safely to bring in two more runs before a two-out error from Babson allowed Brynlee Eckles (Ellington, Conn.) and Haley Ball (Westbrook, Maine) to score as the Pride took a 7-0 lead.

Springfield was able to win it in walk off fashion in the bottom of the fifth as a walk from Pecchia allowed Taylor Falotico (Windsor, Conn.) to score, giving the Pride the 8-0 win.

Game 2: Springfield 10, Babson 2 (6 Innings)

The Pride continued to dominate as back-to-back singles from Pecchia and Madi Testo (Keene, N.H.) allowed two runs to score before Pecchia scored on a walk from Sammy Swords (Plano, Texas) in the top of the first.

Babson added two in the fourth to bring the score to 3-2 still in favor of the Pride, but Springfield had an answer in the bottom half of the inning and put up two more runs to lead 5-2.

In the bottom of the fifth, DeRosa singled to bring in Ball and Swords before a single from Katsetos brought in DeRosa and Falotico as Springfield extended the lead, 9-2. With two outs in the bottom of the sixth, Hunter hit a ball out to left field to bring in Ball to seal the win, 10-2.

The Pride have secured the third seed in the NEWMAC Tournament and will host a doubleheader on Wednesday at 2:00 pm.
