Springfield, Mass. — September 16, 2026 — The Springfield College field hockey team fell to Trinity (Conn.) in a Wednesday night matchup on Stagg Field, 2-1.
Both the Bantams and the Pride move to 3-2 overall.
Springfield held Trinity scoreless through the first, highlighted by four saves from Sam Orcutt (Forestdale, Mass.) and a strong showing from the defense after the Bantams also had three penalty corners.
Trinity then went on to score its first goal of the game less than five minutes into the second quarter when Riley Harrington passed the ball to Brooke DiBiase who found the back of the net to take the lead going into the halftime break.
After multiple shot attempts from the Bantams, Julia Lambert was able to net Trinity's second goal of the game off of a rebound to take the 2-0 lead at 37:42.
The Pride put the pressure on the Bantams late in the fourth as Springfield was awarded a penalty stroke with less than five minutes to play. Rachel Simkewicz (Westminster, Mass.) took the stroke and found the top left corner to put the Pride on the board, but it wasn't enough as Trinity ultimately won it, 2-1.
Orcutt totaled nine saves in the loss as the Bantams outshot Springfield 15-3 and also held a 7-1 edge in penalty corners.
Springfield will open New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday as the Pride host Salve Regina at 4:00 pm on Stagg Field.
