Boston, Mass. — September 19, 2026 — The Springfield College men's soccer team opened up New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with a win over Emerson, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Springfield improves to 2-3-1 overall and 1-0-0 in the NEWMAC while Emerson drops to 3-3-1, 0-1-0.
Connor Policarpio (Bristol, Conn.) scored both goals for the Pride as Tommy Fenton (East Hampton, Conn.) had five saves in the shutout.
The teams were scoreless through the first half which saw a lot of back-and-forth action between both squads as there were only eight shots total and each team notched a corner kick.
Policarpio broke the draw in the 59th minute as he found the bottom left corner on a free kick to give the Pride the lead. With less than two minutes to play, Policaprio shot the ball from midfield which sailed over the goalkeeper's head to find the back of the net for the 2-0 win.
Emerson outshot Springfield 13-0 and held a 7-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Pride will head to nonconference opponent New Paltz on Tuesday at 4:45 pm.
