Springfield, Mass. – October 22, 2008 – After winning its eighth-straight NEWMAC Championship last season, the Springfield College women’s swimming and diving team picked up where it left off as it opened the 2008-2009 campaign with a 128-110 win over Holy Cross on Wednesday evening in the Art Linkletter Natatorium.

The meet kicked off with a dominating performance in the 400 medley as the team of Kallie Pottle, Moira Price, Meredith Trumbull, and Jaclyn Van Waalwijk cruised to victory with a 4:06.68, nearly seven seconds faster than the second-place finishers.

Aimee Doe touched in 2:01.06 to win the 200 free before Price won her second of three events on the night with a victory in the 50 free in 25.13.

A pair of freshman picked up individual wins in their first collegiate meets, as Kaitlin Reilly swam well, picking up a win in the 100 free in a time of 55.57, while Meghan Sisson also took first in the 500 free in 5:27.47. The Pride also grabbed first-place points from Pottle, who claimed first in the 200 back in 2:14.43.

Although it was an exhibition for the Pride, Price touched first in 2:27.18 in the 200 breast, while Doe, Pottle, Van Waalwijk, and Reilly finished 10 seconds in front of the rest of the competition in the 400 free in 3:45.39.

On the diving boards, Meghan Kijanka won on the three-meter with a score of 228.89.

The Pride will return on action on Nov. 1 when it takes on Southern Connecticut and Central Connecticut in New Britain, Conn.
