SPRINGFIELD, Mass. — October 4, 2008 — On Senior Day, Pride senior Melissa Weinstein (Allentown, Pa.) continued her winning ways, defeating Babson’s Jess Huang (Andover, Mass.), 6-1, 6-3, at No. 2 Singles. However, the Beavers proved too strong on the day, defeating Springfield 8-1 in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match this afternoon in perfect weather conditions at Springfield’s Appleton Courts.
With the loss, the Pride fall to 1-3 in the NEWMAC and 2-4 overall, Babson improves to 7-1 (3-1 NEWMAC).
At No. 1 singles, Babson senior Courtney Farrell defeated Springfield sophomore Amy Shaw (Walpole, Mass.), 6-0, 6-1. Springfield junior Rachel Kushma (London, England) valiantly battled Babson senior Heather Walsh in the first set at No. 3 singles, yet lost 7-5, 6-0
Other singles winners for the Beavers included senior Kali Hogan (Clinton, Mass.) at No. 4, freshman Rebecca Stone (Dover, Mass.) at No. 5, and freshman Auna Denson (Houston, Tex.) at No. 6.
In doubles, Babson won all three matches by scores of 8-3, 8-1, 8-3 to post the early 3-0 team lead.
