SPRINGFIELD, MASS., September 18, 2008 – The Springfield College field hockey team got back on the winning track on Thursday evening with a 2-1 victory over Connecticut College in non-conference action on Stagg Field.

With the win, the Pride, currently ranked 17th in the country, improve to 3-2 on the season. The Camels drop to 0-3 on the year.

The game also marked head coach Melissa Rogers 100th career game as the head coach of the Pride.

Senior All-American Jane Kelleher (Chatham, Mass.) tallied both of the Pride’s goals, each coming in the first half. Kelleher’s first tally came as Alexa Carlson (New Milford, Conn.) centered the ball to Kelleher who found the back of the cage with just over 21 minutes remaining in the first half.

10 minutes later, Kelleher scored her fifth goal of the season as she took a loose ball in front of the cage and beat Connecticut’s goalkeeper.

Conn. College cut the lead to one with 17 minutes remaining in regulation as Abby Hine blasted home a shot from the right side of the circle.

Alison McCarthy (North Andover, Mass.) made eight saves in the cage for the Pride for the victory. Robin Edwards made four saves in goal for the Camels in the loss.

The Pride return to action next Wednesday evening when it hosts Amherst at 7:00 pm.
