Springfield, Mass. – October 10, 2009 – The Springfield College women’s tennis team suffered a 9-0 setback to visiting Wellesley College on Saturday afternoon in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest.
With the win the Blue moves to 4-2, while the Pride falls to 1-7 on the season.
Freshman Sam Carney (Franklin, Mass.) suffered her first loss of the season from the No. 3 singles slot. At No. 6 singles, freshman Vanessa Senecal (Seekonk, Mass.) put up a good battle, but lost 10-5 in the third-set super tiebreaker.
Springfield returns to action on Tuesday afternoon when it hosts Mount Holyoke. First serve is slated for 4:00 pm.
