Springfield, Mass. – November 7, 2009 – The Springfield College women’s swimming and diving team breezed past conference-foe Smith, 172-118, in the Art Linkletter Natatorium on Saturday afternoon. Kaitlin Reilly, Meg Cooney, and Jaclyn Van Waalwijk all won multiple events on the day.
The day started well for the Pride, as the quartet of Breonna Harrington, Meredith Trumbull, Cooney, and Van Waalwijk swam to a victory in the 200 medley relay (1:59.59). The next event saw Aimee Doe take the 1000 free victory in 11:06.56.
VanWaalwijkÂ's first victory of the day came in the 200 free as she edged out Lily Seidman of Smith with a time of 2:04.5. The Pride continued to rack up the points as Cooney was victorious in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.57), followed by Reilly taking the 200 butterfly crown (2:18.80).
Sophomore Kelly Kopac notched her first victory of the season by winning the 50 free in a time of 26.66. In the 100 free, VanWaalwijk raced to victory in 57.44.
The Pride earned its last three victories on the afternoon as Cooney won the 200 backstroke (2:18.12), Jennifer Carignan (2:38.58) took the 200 breaststroke, and Reilly took the 500 free (5:31.25).
On the diving boards, Meghan Kijanka won the one-meter with a score of 249.89. On the three-meter, Michelle Reggio recorded the top score with a 246.9.
Springfield returns to action next Saturday when it travels to the University of Rhode Island for a 1:00 PM start.
