Worcester, Mass. – September 29, 2009 – Head Coach Tim Losee picked up his first career win as the Springfield College women’s tennis team defeated Clark, 8-1, in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) match on Tuesday evening.
The win now makes the Pride 1-3 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.
The Pride swept the doubles competition with Amy Shaw and Kyla Walgren leading the way at No. 1 doubles with an 8-3 victory. Shaw went on to pick up her second win of the evening at No. 1 singles as she won, 6-1, 6-2.
Freshman Sam Carney continued her outstanding first year for the Pride as she stayed undefeated with a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 3 singles, while Funmi Olowookere won at No. 4 singles, 6-3, 6-4.
The Pride picked up wins at No. 5 and No. 6 singles as Erin Woodbury and Vanessa Senecal cruised to victories.
The Pride will continue conference play on Saturday afternoon when it travels to take on Babson.
