Women's Swimmers & Divers Win One of Three Dual Meets Over the MLK Weekend

Springfield, Mass. — January 17, 2010 — The Springfield College women’s swimming & diving team had some ups and downs during a long weekend of performing in two separate states against some formidable competition. The women first lost to NYU in New York City, 180 to 120, on Saturday afternoon. Then back in their own Art Linkletter Natatorium just 24 hours later, the SC women split against two powerful conference foes. SC defeated Coast Guard, 168-132, but lost to MIT, 167-133.

Springfield is now 7-4 in dual-meet competition in 2009-2010.

Against the Violets on Saturday, Meghan Sisson picked up a win in the 1,000 free as she touched in 10:47.45 and finished second in the 500 free in 5:17.07. Aimee Doe took first in the 200 free in 2:00.02. In the 100 breast, Janella Cuyler out-touched teammate Jennifer Carignan for the victory with a time of 1:13.16.

Kaitlin Reilly continued to swim well for the Pride as she won the 100 free in 54.77 and took second in the 50 free (25.40) and the 100 fly (1:01.02). Reilly also led off the Pride’s winning 400 free relay team of Caroline Kosciusko, Jaclyn Van Waalwijk, and Doe, who finished in 3:43.55.

On the diving boards, Paige Rhodes took second with a 254.78 on the three-meter and Michelle Reggio placed second on the one-meter after tallying 252.15 points.

In the tri-meet on Sunday, Reggio took first in the one-meter with a 265.50 while Meghan Kijanka placed first on the three-meter, tallying a 247.20. Meg Cooney was the Pride’s only individual winner in the pool as she took first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:16.32.

The Pride had a handful of second-place finishers, including Doe in the 1,000 free (11:01.56), Meredith Trumbull in the 200 fly (2:15.76), Reilly in the 100 free (54.74), Cooney in the 200 back (2:14.78), Carignan in the 200 breast (2:37.41), and Courtney Keefe on the three-meter board (241.50).
