New York, N.Y. — February 20, 2010 — Senior AJ Nally finished with 11 kills to lead the No. 3-ranked Springfield College men’s volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over No. 9-ranked NYU this evening in New York City. Game scores were 30-21, 31-29, 30-21. With the win, the Pride is now 7-4 overall, and has won four straight.
The match featured 35 service errors, 19 of which went to the Violets. It also marked the first time the Violets hit for a negative percentage since March 26, 2005, against Penn State University. In tonight’s match, Springfield limited NYU to a -.033 clip.
Nally led the way on offense with a team-best 11 kills, hitting .400, to go along with four digs and three blocks. The difference in the match was Springfield’s dominance at the net, as the Pride combined four 17 team blocks in the match. Greg Faclone continued his remarkable freshman season as he posted 11 blocks, including nine block assists. Mike Pelletier added eight kills and five blocks, while Alistair Matthews chipped in with nine kills and three blocks of his own in the victory.
Freshman Cooper Gwaltney paced the Violet attack with 10 kills. Trevor Salter, another Violet freshman, added 28 assists and six digs.
Springfield will now travel through the night to take on George Mason in Fairfax, Virginia on Sunday afternoon at 3:00 pm for an EIVA Tait clash.
