Springfield, Mass. — January 15, 2011 — Led by Kellie Pennington, Meredith Trumbull, and Jennifer Thompson, the Springfield College women’s swimming and diving team defeated New York University, 174-126, this afternoon at SC’s Art Linkletter Natatorium.
The Pride had many outstanding efforts during the afternoon, all contributing to the victory.
Pennington placed first in the 100 freestyle (53.31) and second in the 200 free (1:57.96). She was also part of the winning 200-yard freestyle relay.
Trumbull had a pair of firsts in the 200 butterfly in 2:10.36 and later in the 200 backstroke in 2:14.62.
Thompson had a pair of firsts in each diving event — the 1-meter with 271.41 points and 3-meter diving events (269.47 points).
Another who had a good day was Jennifer Cuyler, who won the 100 breaststroke in 1:11.76. Kaitlin Reilly had the top time in the 50 free in 25.16.
Springfield also won both relays, including the meet-opening 400 medley relay with Kerry Lynch, Nicolle Stracqualursi, Reilly, and Aimee Doe in 4:09.65. SC also captured the meet-ending 200 free relay with Pennington, Doe, Jaclyn Van Waalwijk, and Caroline Kosciusko in 1:40.86.
Tomorrow, SC will travel to MIT to take on MIT and Coast Guard.
