Cambridge, Mass. – October 8, 2011 – Sam Carney picked up a win at No. 1 singles but it was the MIT women’s tennis team that prevailed over Springfield College in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.
The Pride drop to 3-6, 1-5 in league play as it ends a busy week in which it played four matches. MIT, which is ranked 22nd in the nation, improves to 5-1 this season.
Carney grinded out a terrific win at No. 1 singles as she won 2-6, 6-3, 12-10. The Pride’s top performance in doubles play came at the No. 3 spot as Erin Woodbury and Siana Green dropped a tough 9-8 (7-4) decision.
Springfield will play again on Tuesday afternoon when it travels to take on Mount Holyoke in conference play.
