Middlebury, Vt. — December 10, 2011 — Despite a trio of victories by Kellie Pennington and a record-setting performance by Jennifer Thompson , the Springfield College women’s swimming & diving team lost a meet this afternoon to Middlebury College, 177-123.. SC’s record drops to 3-3.
Pennington, a sophomore from Monson, Mass., finished first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 59.50. She also won the 50-yard fly in 26.95, and 100-yard individual medley in 1:02.15.
In the one-meter diving competition, Thompson broke Nora Kelly’s school record after totaling 294.83 points. Kelly’s old record was 284.85 points and had stood since 1998. The Cheshire, Conn. native later won the three-meter with 284.85 points, qualifying for nationals in both events.
There were other victors for the Pride, including Kaitlin Reilly, a senior from Cumberland, R.I., in the 100-free with a time of 55.58.
In the final event of the day, SC captured the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 1:40.72. Combining for the win were Reilly, junior Amanda Shaw (East Stroudsburg, Pa.), senior Caroline Kosciusko (West Cornwall, Conn.), and Pennington.
