Springfield, Mass. – April 21, 2011 – The Springfield College women’s lacrosse team dropped its regular season-home finale to visiting Connecticut College, 11-9, on a windy Thursday afternoon at Stagg Field.

The Pride drop to 9-5 on the year, while the Camels improve to 5-8.

Allie Davis scored four goals for Springfield, while Meghan Flanagan added a pair of tallies. Both Jackie Moscardelli and Meagan Dobson produced a goal and an assist. Anne Versprille had a tremendous showing between the pipes as she tallied 11 saves.

Abby Hill led the visitors with four goals and an assist, while Katelyn Driscoll added four scores of her own. Izzy Marx dished out two assists and scooped up five draw controls. Caitlin Cataldo earned the win in goal despite making just two saves.

For the game, Connecticut College held a 29-18 advantage in shots and dominated the draw controls, winning 17 of 22, including 13 in the opening half.

Davis opened up the scoring 2:51 into the contest after she dodged to her right and ripped an unassisted goal for Springfield. Bolstered by wins on the six draw controls, Connecticut College responded with the gameÂ's next five goals to take a 5-1 lead with 21:55 on the clock. Hill and Driscoll each found the back of the cage twice in the run, with HillÂ's second tally forcing Springfield into a timeout.

Out of the break, the Pride poured in three straight strikes, including two by Davis, to make it 5-4. FlanaganÂ's free-position goal with 9:44 left in the half got Springfield within one, the closet the Pride would get for the remainder of the opening 30 minutes of play.

The Camels recorded the gameÂ's next three goals , as a pair of Hill tallies assisted by Marx sandwiched a Miller unassisted marker as Connecticut College regained a three-goal cushion with 5:56 remaining.

Springfield would start to build some momentum heading into the half as goals from Moscardelli and Davis made it an 8-6 ball game as the teams went to the locker rooms.

Dobson got things started for Springfield in the second after she stuffed in a shot on the crease following a great look from Moscardelli just over four minutes into the half to make it a one-goal game.

However, Connecticut College pumped in three unanswered goals to open up another four-goal cushion at 11-7. Driscoll notched two goals, before a Libby Nichols goal with 15:15 forced Springfield into another timeout.

The Pride clawed their way back in as goals from Nicole Soucie and Flanagan just 49 seconds apart made it 11-9 with 12:24 left. However, that was as close as Springfield would get as Connecticut College held on for the non-conference win.

Springfield will wrap up its regular season on Saturday afternoon when it travels to Mount Holyoke for a conference contest beginning at 1:00 pm. Regardless of the outcome, the Pride has already clinched the top seed in the upcoming New England WomenÂ's and MenÂ's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament and will host the semifinals and finals on April 30 and May 1.
