Springfield, Mass. – January 27, 2012 – The Springfield College men’s volleyball cruised past Endicott in three sets on Friday evening in Blake Arena by the set scores of 25-11, 25-11, 25-10.

Springfield has now won consecutive matches to improve to 2-3, while the Gulls drop to 0-2. Today’s match was the first of the season against a Division III opponent for the Pride, which is currently ranked second in the country in the latest AVCA Division III National Poll. Endicott was listed among those teams receiving votes.

SpringfieldÂ's offense was clicking all night as it hit .574, totaling 39 kills on 61 swings while committing just four errors. Angel Perez finished with a match high nine kills, hitting .818, while Greg Falcone posted seven kills on 10 errorless swings to go along with a match-high six blocks. Mike Freytag and Evan Acanfora each added six kills as 14 different players saw action on the court tonight.

Jeremy Siden totaled five of the Gulls 17 kills on the night while chipping in with a team-best four digs. Mike Coniglione posted two kills and two blocks as well for Endicott, which finished the night hitting -.097.

The Pride put on quite an impressive show in the opening set as it hit .714, notching 15 kills on 21 errorless attempts. Springfield used back-to-back double blocks, including a big stuff from Falcone and Mike Pelletier, to take an 11-4 lead. The PrideÂ's lead grew to 17-6 as Mike BeckerÂ's ace painted the back corner, which forced Endicott to burn its second timeout of the set. Perez closed out the game on an ace as the Pride won 25-11, holding Endicott to a .000 hitting percentage.

After dropping the opening point of the set, Springfield reeled off nine unanswered points to take a commanding 9-1 lead. Perez fueled the run with four kills and a pair of blocks. The Pride didnÂ't led up and used consecutive blocks from Freytag and Jeff Gutmann to open up a 19-4 advantage. With an entirely new lineup in for more than half of the set, Springfield finished winning 25-11 once again, as Perez totaled six kills on six swings.

Back-to-back overpass kills from Acanfora and Alistair Matthews set the tone for the third for Springfield. A Brandon Chadwick kill brought Endicott within four at 9-5, only to have Springfield burst the game open with a 5-0 run, fueled by a pair of aces from Keaton Pieper. From there, Springfield ended the match with nine of the set’s final 13 points, hitting .500 for the second-straight stanza.

The Pride will play once again on Saturday evening after it travels on Mass Turnpike to battle in-state foe Harvard at 7:00 pm.
