Springfield, Mass. — March 30, 2012 — Led by junior Sam Carney (Franklin, Mass.) at No. 1 singles, the Springfield College women’s tennis team defeated its counterparts from Salve Regina University of Newport, R.I. 9-0, on a pleasant day this afternoon at the Julius Appleton Courts at SC.
Springfield thus raises its record to 6-9, while Salve Regina falls to 8-6. The Pride has now won three in a row, including its last two on its Spring Break trip to Florida.
SC captured doubles play, 3-0. Junior Siana Green (Pomfret, Conn.) won her match at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-0.
Salve managed to win one set on the day, at No. 6 singles. Everything else was won by SC in straight sets.
