Springfield, Mass. — September 15, 2012 — The MIT women’s tennis team opened the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference portion of its season with a 9-0 victory over Springfield College this afternoon at the newly-renovated Julius Appleton Courts on the SC campus. The Engineers captured each match in straight sets.
MIT’s three doubles teams took each of their matches by scores of 8-2 — opening up a 3-0 lead.
In singles play, MIT’s Lauren Quisenberry defeated SC senior Sam Carney, 6-2, 6-1, at No. 1 singles. Vynnie Kong defeated junior Jen Cleary, 6-2, retired, at No. 2. And Candace Wu defeated senior Siana Green, 6-0, 6-2, at No. 3.
Springfield is now 1-1 overall, 0-1 in the conference.
