Babson Park, Mass. – September 29, 2012 – First-year Krissy Cicalis knocked home a header for the first goal of her career with 44 seconds remaining in the second overtime to help regionally-ranked Springfield College slip past Babson College 2-1 in double overtime in New England WomenÂ's and MenÂ's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) womenÂ's soccer action at Hartwell-Rogers Field on Saturday afternoon.

Following a Babson foul just outside the box on the right wing, junior midfielder Ashley Carresi hit a free kick from 25 yards out into the penalty area, connecting with Cicalis, whose header beat BeaversÂ' sophomore goalkeeper Elizabeth Estabrook and inside the left post for the dramatic win.

With the win, Springfield moves to 6-3-0 overall and remains unbeaten in NEWMAC play at 3-0-0. Babson, who saw its three-game winning streak snapped, falls to 4-5-1 overall and 1-2-0 in the NEWMAC.

The Pride dominated the opening 30 minutes of the contest and opened the scoring on senior Mary HoganÂ's first goal of the season, off a corner kick, 21:34 into the match. Carressi was again the catalyst for Springfield, serving her corner kick into the box where Hogan tucked a header past a Babson defender and inside the right post for a 1-0 advantage.

The Beavers would level the score before halftime, converting their first scoring chance of the game, as senior Ashley Tourso knocked home a rebound at the 36:02 mark. Senior Kelly Hanly made a run down the left wing and her shot was deflected off the cross bar by Springfield goalkeeper Erin Greenstein, but Tourso was able to beat the senior keeper to the rebound and slide the ball inside the right post for her fourth goal of the season.

The best chance for either side in the second half came off of Babson senior Nichole VargasÂ' free kick in the 72nd minute. Vargas hit a blast from 40 yards out that skipped through the box and hit the right post, before classmate Amy Festa floated her rebound attempt just over the cross bar.

First-year Nicki Beathem missed just wide on her 15 yard shot from the left side in the 84th minute, and Greenstein made a save on a Tourso header in the 89th minute to keep the game deadlocked and force overtime. Babson outshot Springfield 8-3 in the second half.

Springfield held a slim 8-7 advantage in shots over the two overtime periods and 11 shots on goal to BabsonÂ's nine for the afternoon. The teams combined for 35 fouls in a physical contest.

Greenstein made eight saves for Springfield to collect the win while Estabrook made seven stops for Babson.

Both teams return to action on Tuesday afternoon with NEWMAC opponents as Babson hosts Clark and Springfield travels to Wheaton, with both matches starting at 4:00p.m.
