Springfield, Mass. – January 12, 2013 – The Springfield College women’s swimming and diving team opened up the second semester with a strong showing as it cruised by NYU, 157-126, on Saturday afternoon in the Linkletter Natatorium.
Several Springfield swimmers had tremendous days as they had multiple individual victories. Kellie Pennington posted a pair of victories as she sprinted to wins in the 50 free (24.60) and the 100 free (55.81).
Ashleigh Monroe excelled in the distance free events, capturing the 1,000 in 10:50.38 and the 500 in 5:13.14. Classmate Callie Phillips won the 200 free in 1:58.54 and had the top time in the 200 IM after touching in 2:15.30.
Kelsey Poole also had an outstanding afternoon, winning the 100 back (1:01.62), the 200 back (2:09.80), and the 100 fly (1:00.64).
In the 200 breast, Nicolle Stracqualursi touched first in 2:34.79 and Molly Potter won the 200 fly with a 2:16.62.
In the diving events, Melanie Avdoulos won the one-meter with a mark of 251.33. The three-meter board was dominated by Jennifer Thompson, as the junior posted a national qualifying score of 305.10.
Next Saturday, the Pride will travel to take on Williams at 1:00 pm.
