Springfield, Mass. – April 6, 2013 – The Springfield College men’s tennis team dropped a 9-0 decision to Wheaton College on Saturday afternoon in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) showdown.
Springfield evens its record to 6-6, and is 0-3 in league play, while Wheaton is now 6-4, 1-2.
The Lyons won all three doubles matches, earning close victories at the top two spots. Ben Burnap and Kyle Mersereau were edged at No. 1 doubles, 9-7, while Joe Giannelli and Alex Orban were clipped, 8-5.
Both Mersereau and Giannelli were the only Springfield athletes to force three sets in singles play. Mersereau lost at the top spot, 6-1, 2-6, 10-5, while Giannelli dropped a 6-4, 2-6, 10-5 decision at No. 3 singles.
The Pride will square off with UMass Dartmouth on Tuesday in a non-conference clash.
