Springfield, Mass. – September 14, 2013 – The Springfield College women’s tennis team was defeated by visiting Wheaton College, 8-1, in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday at Appleton Courts.
Springfield’s lone point of the afternoon came from the No. 2 doubles team of Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Stephanie Foster (Woodbridge, Conn.), who prevailed 9-8 (7-4). Springfield nearly pulled off the win at No. 3 doubles, but Alanna Grady (Springfield, Mass.) and Sydney Streimer (Mystic, Conn.) were defeated, 8-6.
In singles action, Foster has the Pride’s best showing at No. 5 singles despite the 6-1, 6-3 setback.
Springfield will continue league play on Sunday when it hits the Massachusetts Turnpike to square off with MIT.
