Springfield, Mass. – September 25, 2013 - The Springfield College men’s tennis team earned its first win of the season on Wednesday, topping visiting Endicott, 7-2.
The Pride swept all three doubles match ups and took four out of six singles matches to earn the win.
Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass.) led Springfield with a win in first singles. The freshman beat Endicott’s Evan Ross (Worcester, Mass.), 6-3, 7-6.
Joe Giannelli (Watertown, Conn.), Justin Danielewicz (Portland, Conn.) and Kyle Beynor (Prospect, Conn.) swept the next three singles matches for the Pride.
Giannelli beat Endicott’s Michael Dolph (Stratford, Conn.), 4-6, 6-4, 7-5; Danielewicz took down Justin Warshavsky (East Hartford, Conn.), 6-2, 7-5; and Beynor beat Michael Lauretano (Winchester, Mass.) with a score of 6-4, 6-2.
Springfield dominated the doubles match ups, earning wins in all three.
DeVarennes and Giannelli beat Dolph and Eric Gandrup (Sudbury, Mass.), 8-5; Danielewicz and Beynor won 8-6 over Ross and Sean McAndrews (Vineyard Haven, Mass.); and Cody Rodrigues (Westfield, Mass.) and Joshua Robinson (Southold, N.Y.) won with a score of 8-2 over Clay Arnold (Ivoryton, Conn.) and Tyler Lemieux (New Hartford, Conn.).
Endicott falls to 0-2 on the season. The Gulls will play again on October 4th, traveling to St. Anselm for a 3:30 start. Springfield bounced back from a loss to Nichols this week. The Pride will play on Friday in the New England Championships in Middlebury, Vt.
