Box Score Worcester, Mass. - October 14, 2014 - Three different goal scorers for the Springfield College women's soccer program paced the Pride to a 3-0 victory over Clark University on Tuesday evening at the Granger Soccer Turf.
Springfield received scoring from freshman Kimberly Quiles (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) for the second-straight game, as the first-year posted a game-high three points, while Krissy Cicalis (Bridgewater, Mass.) and Brooke Hattinger (Weymouth, Mass.) also struck for the Pride. Jessica Miller (Southbury, Conn.) also had a pair of assists in the contest.
With the win, Springfield, who was ranked No. 9 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) regional rankings, has now picked up its third-straight victory and improves to 7-3-2 overall and 4-1-1 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). With the loss, Clark falls to 1-12 overall and 0-5 in conference play.
The Pride heavily out shot the Cougars, holding a 22-9 advantage, including eight shots on goal to Clark's four. Senior goalkeeper Lucy Gillett (Rockville Center, N.Y.) posted three saves as she picked up her fourth clean sheet of the season and third in the last three games. Senior captain Holly Ouellette (Shrewsbury, Mass.) came on in relief and posted a save in the final minutes to preserve the shut-out victory for the Pride.
Quiles opened the scoring for Springfield at the 10:33 mark of the opening stanza, when Miller sent in a beautiful cross from the right side that the freshman forward was able to convert to give the Pride a 1-0 edge.
With just three seconds remaining in the first half, Julia Cormier (New Beford, Mass.) passed in a corner kick to Quiles, who sent a ball into the Cougars' box that Hattinger was able to rise above the Clark defense and head the ball into the back of the net to push the Pride's lead to two just before half.
At the 28:15 mark of the second half, Cicalis iced the victory for the Pride when she hammered home a pass from Miller to give the Pride a 3-0 victory.
The Pride will resume play on Saturday, October 18 when it will travel east to take on Emerson College in a NEWMAC bout. The game is set for 1 p.m.
