Wellesley, Mass. - October 14, 2014 - The Springfield College women's tennis team fell to Wellesley College on Tuesday afternoon in the Pride's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular-season finale.
With the loss, the Pride will enter the NEWMAC tournament with a 5-6 record overall, while holding a 3-5 record in conference play. The Blue now stand at 8-2 overall on the season and 7-1 in the conference, having locked up the second overall seed in next week's NEWMAC Championship Tournament.
Junior captain Melanie Thulin (Manchester Center, Vt.) put her best foot forward for the Pride, as she fell to Dasha Kostakina (Acton, Mass.) in the No. 4 slot, 6-4, 6-3. In the No. 6 slot, despite her efforts, Kelsey Whelpley (Mastic Beach, N.Y.) fell to Caroline Dickensheets 6-4, 6-2.
Opening the day, the doubles pair of Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Stephanie Foster (Woodbridge, Conn.) fell to Sojung Lee and Carina Chen 8-2, before Thulin and Ariana Shemms (Goshen, Conn.) and the team of Rachel Litchfield (Northbridge, Mass.) and Stephani Post (Westford, Mass.) both fell 8-0.
