Galloway, N.J. - October 17, 2014 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team lost its first two matches of the Osprey Classic at Richard Stockton University on Friday evening, falling to Swarthmore and New Paltz. 

Springfield now stands at 15-7 on the year.  In the opening match of the weekend, Swarthmore swept the Pride by the set scores of 25-23, 25-20, 25-16.  New Paltz prevailed over the Pride by the scores of 25-19, 24-26, 25-13, 22-25, 16-14 in the nightcap.

Against Swarthmore, Kelsey McGayhey (Shelter Island, N.Y.) led Springfield with 10 kills at a .444 clip, while Lauren Holt (Granby, Conn.) added eight kills.  Marnae Mawdsley (Bolton, Conn.) was credited with 32 assists and Meghan Kinee (Williamstown, N.J.) produced a team-best 14 digs.

McGayhey was dominant versus New Paltz as well, pounding out 17 kills on a.400 hitting percentage.  Holt provided six blocks and eight kills, and Hannah Andres (West Barnstable, Mass.) added nine kills.  Whitney Miller (Cuba, N.Y.) posted 34 assists and 13 digs.

Springfield nearly pulled off the comeback victory as it held a 14-13 lead in the fifth, however New Paltz rattled off the final three points of the match to complete the win.

The Pride will return to action on Saturday when it battles host Richard Stockton in addition to Kean University.
