New London, Conn. – April 2, 2014 - Senior captain Joe Giannelli (Watertown, Conn.) led the Springfield College men’s tennis team as the only singles winner in a 7-2 loss to Coast Guard on the road on Wednesday.
Giannelli cruised to the win at No. 4 singles, winning by scores of 6-2, 6-0. The Pride’s other win of the day came from the doubles team of Cody Rodrigues (Westfield, Mass.) and Josh Robinson (Southold, N.Y.. The duo won by a score of 8-3 at third doubles.
Kyle Beynor (Prospect, Conn.) played tough at No. 3 singles, despite falling, 6-2, 7-6 (7-5). Rodrigues also battled at sixth singles. He fell 6-3 in the first set, battled back to win the second, 6-4. In the deciding set, he fell by a score of 10-5.
With the loss, Springfield falls to 5-4 on the season and 0-2 in the NEWMAC.
