Springfield, Mass. – April 9, 2014 - Senior captain Joe Giannelli (Watertown, Conn.) went unbeaten in singles and doubles play to lead the Springfield College men's tennis team, despite a 6-3 loss to visiting Clark on Wednesday.
Springfield falls to 6-6 on the year and 0-4 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. Clark improves to 11-5 (2-1 NEWMAC) with the win.
Giannelli was one of two winners in singles play for Springfield. The senior beat Clark's Spencer Pinkney, 6-3, 6-4. Kyle Beynor (Prospect, Conn.) also won for the Pride, beating Fernando Pinoargote with scores of 6-1, 6-4.
Giannelli and doubles partner Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass.) were Springfield's only duo to win in doubles play, beating Dan Stein and Pinkney, 8-5.
On Saturday, Springfield will continue NEWMAC play with a trip to Babson at 1:00 p.m.
