Box Score Springfield, Mass. - September 5, 2014 - Junior Nicole Fowler (Maynard, Mass.) posted three goals and an assist to lead the Springfield College women's soccer team to a 6-1 victory over Westfield State on Friday evening, the opening night of the Springfield College Invitational hosted at Brock-Affleck Field.
The Pride wasted no time as they struck early with a goal from Julia Cormier (New Bedford, Mass.) in the first minute of the game. Right from the opening kick, Fowler controlled the ball on the left side of the net and made a cross to the center that was deflected by Westfield State goalkeeper Anne Stack (East Longmeadow, Mass.). Off the deflection, Brooke Hattinger (Weymouth, Mass.) tapped it to Cormier at the top of the box who placed it into the left side of the net to give the Pride a 1-0 advantage.
Just three minutes after, Westfield State struck back after Ashleigh Chretien (North Attleboro, Mass.) buried a penalty kick into the right corner of the net past Lucy Gillett (Rockville Centre, N.Y.) to even the score at one apiece.
The Pride answered in the 18th minute after Fowler buried a shot from the top of the box that was set up by Krissy Cicalis (Bridgewater, Mass.) to push the Pride back to a one-goal advantage.
In the 26th minute, freshman Dakota Kelly (Bethany, Conn.) continued Springfield's momentum, capitalizing on a 15-yard strike off a pass from Janacee Bradbury (South Portland, Maine).
The duo of Fowler and Lia Gagliardi (Wallingford, Conn.) took over in the final 11 minutes of the contest, for in the 79thminute, Fowler scored a breakaway goal off a throw in from Gagliardi. In the 81st minute, Gagliardi set Fowler up for her final goal, a strike from 10-yards out.
With two minutes remaining in the game, Gagliardi found the back of the net off a cross from Fowler.
Gillett picked up her first win of the season, finishing with 3 saves.
Westfield State will play St. Lawrence in the consolation game of the Springfield College Invitational, Saturday at 5:00 p.m. Springfield will host Roger Williams in the championship game at 7:15 p.m.

The Roger Williams women's soccer team beat St. Lawrence University, 1-0, Friday night at the Springfield College Invitational, hosted at Brock-Affleck Field.
The Hawks capitalized early in the 7th minute off a Mariah Kaiser (Portsmouth, R.I.) goal, when St. Lawrence goalie Kelsey West (Fall River, Nova Scotia) made a save off a Jessica Valenti (North Reading, Mass.) strike inside the box. Kaiser collected the rebound on the right post and put it in the back of the net to score the lone goal of the game.
The Saints made an aggressive push, outshooting the Hawks 6-2 in the second half, but were unable to capitalize.
Sydney Martin (Scarborough, Mass.) made 4 saves for Roger Williams while West had 2 for the Saints.
St. Lawrence will take on Westfield State in the consolation game of the Springfield College Invitational, Saturday at 5:00 p.m. Roger Williams will play Springfield in the championship game at 7:15 p.m.
