Springfield, Mass. - October 10, 2015 - The Springfield College women's tennis program dropped a 9-0 decision with Wellesley College on Saturday afternoon, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play at the Appleton Courts.
With the loss, Springfield falls to 3-6 overall and 2-6 in conference play, while the Blue improves to 7-3 on the season, and 6-2 in the NEWMAC.
At No. 1 doubles, Rachel London (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) and Stephanie Foster (Woodbridge, Conn.) fell to Justine Huang (Coto de Caza, Calif.) and Carina Chen (Hong Kong), 8-2, before the Pride drop No. 2 doubles and No. 3 doubles, 8-1, giving the Blue a 3-0 advantage heading into singles.
Of the singles play, freshman Emily Etter (Guilford, Conn.) held strong in the No. 3 singles slot, but eventually fell to Andjela Stojkovic (Victoria, British Columbia), 6-4, 6-4, as the Blue was able to take all six singles points to escape with the 9-0 win.
Up next, Springfield will compete at the New England Women's Intercollegiate Tennis Tournament (NEWITT) on October 16 and 17 at Williams College.
