Box Score Babson Park, Mass. - October 17, 2015 - Springfield College junior Luke Alvaro (Chicopee, Mass.) leveled the match with just 10 seconds to play in regulation as the Springfield College men's soccer program played to a 1-1 double overtime draw with Babson College in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) men's soccer action on Saturday afternoon at Hartwell-Rogers Field.
Babson is now 7-5-2 overall and 2-2-1 in conference play, while Springfield, which is unbeaten in its last four matches, moves to 10-2-1 overall and 3-1-1 in the NEWMAC.
Senior goalkeeper Stephen Donato (Morganville, N.J.) finished with six stops for the Green and White, while senior
Billy Schmid (Wethersfield, Conn.) turned away two shots in 110 minutes for Springfield.
The Pride finished with a 23-12 edge in shots, while the Beavers recorded a slim 5-4 advantage in corner kicks.
Dan McGuinness (Groton, Mass.) got to a loose ball in the box following a cross from junior Adam Villari (Landsdale, Pa.) and buried an eight-yard shot inside the near post for his second goal of the year to give the Beavers a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute.
It looked as though Babson would make its early goal stand up, but the Pride finally broke through in the closing seconds of regulation, as Alvaro struck for his team-leading 10th goal of the season.
After a ball was served into the box by sophomore Douglas Enga (Syosset, N.Y.), freshman forward Christian Schneider (Shelton, Conn.) headed a ball across the goal mouth, before Alvaro connected and sent a shot into the back of the net to pull the Pride even at one.
The sides combined for 11 shots in the two overtime periods with each goalkeeper being forced to make just one save.
Springfield will return to action on Monday, October 19 when it travels to Suffolk for a 6:45 p.m. match.
