Box Score Boston, Mass. - October 19, 2015 - The Springfield College men's soccer team used three first-half goals to cruise to a 4-0 non-conference victory against Suffolk on Monday evening.
Springfield, which is unbeaten in its last five outings, improved to 11-2-1 with the victory.
The duo of Zach Richard (Millbury, Mass.) and Stewart Frank (Pittsford, N.Y.) combined for Springfield's eighth shutout of the season as each made a pair of saves. Springfield controlled the game throughout and held a 24-9 advantage in shots, including 12 shots on frame.
Wayne Belcher (Norton, Mass.) netted what would prove to be the game-winning marker just 1:15 into the contest off a feed from Taylor Gilfoy (Holliston, Mass.). Springfield doubled its lead in the 24th minute on a strike from Nick Fontana (Marshfield, Mass.) off a Nick Kobel (Webster, Mass.) throw in.
The Pride went into halftime with a 3-0 cushion after Luke Alvaro (Chicopee, Mass.) scored with just 36 seconds remaining in the half for his team-leading 11th goal of the season after a beautiful feed up the right side by Brad Deckel (Lansdale, Pa.).
Springfield's final tally of the evening came with 2:46 left in regulation as Alex Haji (Shrewsbury, Mass.) connected with Danny Murphy (Old Saybrook, Conn.).
Springfield will now prepare for a showdown against MIT on Saturday at 12:00 pm in a clash of the top two teams in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) standings.
