Springfield Mass. - February 2, 2015 - Despite impressive performances from standout junior Callie Phillips (East Longmeadow, Mass.), junior diver Melanie Avdoulos (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore Morgan Kitzmiller (Dover, Pa.), the Springfield College women's swimming and diving team fell to Amherst College 162-132.
Phillips was impressive in the 200 freestyle as she posted a 1:57.39 to earn the first place slot. She also took first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.84, was the runner-up in the 100 Individual Medley with a time of 1:03.06 and touched first in the 200 medley relay alongside teammates Emily Medeiros (Wakefield, Mass.), Delaney Dyjak (Ludlow, Mass.) and Nicole Scotto (Southbury, Conn.).
Avdoulos and Kitzmiller went first and second on the one-meter and three-meter boards. Avdoulos earned first in the one-meter event with a score of 233.70, while Kitzmiller followed suit in the three-meter (251.86).
Along with the 200 medley relay, Medeiros led the Pride in the 50 breaststroke as she touched the wall first in 30.76 and was one of Springfield's strongest swimmers in the 50 butterfly, finishing with a time of 27.96.
The Pride will gear up for the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship from Thursday February 19th-Sunday February 22nd.
